Their Sydney CD launch is at the Camelot Lounge this Thursday 31 May 2012 so we’ll have at least two selections from May’s featured release, A Great Day For the Race from the wonderful Melbourne band, Flap!, pairing at least one of these with something from Steve Purcell’s Pearly Shells!
We only skimmed the surface last week of the El Toro compilation, El Mexican Rock & Roll Vol 2, so more this week, if there’s time. We’ve got to hit you with Manuel ‘El Loco’ Valdez‘s Medico Brujo some time!
Lots of birthdays this week so brief tributes only to Miles Davis, Levon Helm, Peggy Lee, Papa Charlie McCoy, Moondog, Kristina Olsen (Happy 55th, Kristina!), & Mamie Smith (pictured above), as well as a valedictory tribute to Washington DC’s “Godfather of Go-Go”, Chuck Brown.
Expect also to hear tracks from Lily Dior‘s stunning Let’s Talk About It, Mississippi Shakedown‘s slide-a-delic 5th, and we’ll debut The Pearly Shells‘ cool ‘n’ jazzy Belmar Sessions and Nicky Bomba’s Bustamento‘s calypsoskareggaementophonic Intrepid Adventures To the Lost Riddim Islands.
