We have a slew of “desert blues” from West Africa for you on Black Routes this week, in support of aid to refugees fleeing conflict in northern Mali. Our featured disk, Songs For Desert Refugees (Glitterhouse 2012), benefits two NGOs working with refugees from Mali, Tamoudré and ETAR. n.b. these sites are predominantly in French, but there’s plenty of English articles there to appraise you of the dire situation in northern Mali.
There are other charities working with refugees in the Sahel region of West Africa, such as UNICEF Australia.
We’ll also be featuring Ben Zabo’s self-titled Malian Afrobeat release, also on Glitterhouse.
