Vince Murray, one of our three founders and the Patron of 2RDJ-FM, passed away at 3:00pm on Friday 23rd December 2011. He had a major stroke on 7th November 2011 and was hospitalised at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital. He was paralysed and semi concious until the weekend of 17th/18th of December when his health severely declined.
Vince was one of the three founders of 2RDJ-FM in 1975 and had been a continuous member of 2RDJ-FM over its 36 year history. During this time he had also served a few periodic terms as its Chairman and as its Secretary. Most will remember Vince as the Presenter/Producer of “Ireland Calling”, his Saturday morning radio programme, which he presented from 1988 until illness forced his retirement on Saturday June 5, 2010. He had presented the programme for 22 continuous years.
In recognition of his service to 2RDJ-FM Vince was appointed its first Patron at a small gathering held at the
completion of his last “Ireland Calling” programme.
Since retiring from his programme and up to his recent illness he had been an avid listener and continued to have a keen interest in 2RDJ-FM.
He will be sadly missed by the 2RDJ-FM membership and the Australian Irish community.
Members of the 2RDJ community who wish to express their condolences may do so by email to info@radio2rdj.com or by post to Radio 2RDJ-FM, PO Box 1088, Burwood North, NSW 2134 and we will arrange for their messages to be forwarded to Vince’s family.
