What’s on Black Routes this Saturday 19 May 2012 4-6 pm

News & Blog

Over the past few weeks on Black Routes we’ve played some vintage rock ‘n’ roll from two beaut compilations on the Spanish El Toro label, Ray Harris and Friends : Mississippi Rockers and Rocket Morgan and Friends : Louisiana Rockers. This week we’ll play more classic selections from a third El Toro compilation, El Mexican Rock & Roll Vol 2: it’s a hoot!
It’s getting closer to their 31 May launch at the Camelot Lounge so we’ll have a a selection or two from May’s featured release, A Great Day For the Race from the wonderful Melbourne band, Flap!, maybe pairing this with something from Steve Purcell’s Pearly Shells!
Our birthday tribute this week will be to a disco diva born the same year as the recently-late Donna Summer, but who’s still withwith us: Grace Jones, We’ll also have a valedictory tribute to the great soul bass player, Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn, who died earlier this week, and a very brief tribute to Australian jazz guitarist Peter Boothman, who died last month.
Expect also to hear from Matt Andersen, Ray Beadle, Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges, Lily Dior (pictured above), Oscar Jimenez and Watussi, Liz Martin, Mississippi Shakedown, and The Jed Rowe Band, and others.
Follow us on Twitter (click) Black Routes On Twitter (during broadcast we post what we’re playing!) and do please send requests for future programs to (click) Black Routes Program Requests.
And do please send all snail mail items (CDs!) to Black Routes PO Box 360 Glebe NSW 2037 Australia. Send them anywhere else we probably won’t get them!
Talk to ya soon!
